Holiday travel and GLP-1 refills collide in mid-December. Count back from your next dose: add the provider's review time, the pharmacy's processing time, and the carrier's holiday deadline. For 2026, USPS recommends shipping by December 17 to 19 for pre-Christmas delivery, depending on service. Ask for your refill in early December, not the week you leave.
Telehealth GLP-1 care depends on one thing working on schedule: a package reaching you before your next dose. Around the holidays, that chain gets tighter. Carriers are busy, pharmacies close for a day or two, and you may not be home to receive the box. This guide covers the logistics: shipping cutoffs, storage ranges from the official labels, refill timing, address changes and airport screening. Dates were checked against carrier and agency pages on October 29, 2026.
If you are crossing state lines for more than a short trip, the rules about where your clinician is licensed matter too. We cover that separately in crossing state lines while using GLP-1 telehealth, so we will not repeat it here.
2026 carrier holiday deadlines
These are the carriers' recommended or last ship dates for delivery before December 25, 2026. They describe when a package must leave, not when your provider approves a refill. Christmas falls on a Friday this year.
| Carrier and service | Ship by |
|---|---|
| USPS Ground Advantage | Thu, Dec 17 |
| USPS Priority Mail | Fri, Dec 18 |
| USPS Priority Mail Express | Sat, Dec 19 |
| UPS 3 Day Select | Mon, Dec 21 |
| UPS 2nd Day Air | Tue, Dec 22 |
| UPS Next Day Air | Wed, Dec 23 |
| FedEx Ground Economy | Tue, Dec 15 |
| FedEx Express Saver / 2Day | Mon, Dec 21 / Tue, Dec 22 |
| FedEx overnight services | Wed, Dec 23 |
USPS dates come from USPS's 2026 holiday page. UPS and FedEx dates come from ShipStation's 2026 roundup, which cites both carriers' published schedules. UPS says ground shipping dates depend on origin and destination. UPS lists no pickup or delivery on December 25, 2026 or January 1, 2027. For Alaska, Hawaii and U.S. territories, USPS says Ground Advantage can take 10 days or more.
You will not usually pick the carrier; the pharmacy does. What you can find out is the service level. GobyMeds says most of its orders arrive in 2 to 5 business days, and that orders approved late in the week may ship the following Monday. HealthRX says it ships overnight, with no signature required. Ask your provider which applies to you, then match it to the table above.
Refill timing: count backward
A refill is several steps, and each one can slow down in December. Here is the sequence to plan around:
- Request or check-inMany programs require a short check-in before each refill. Find out the earliest date you are allowed to request one.
- Clinician reviewA licensed clinician still has to approve the refill. Ask how long that typically takes and whether holiday staffing changes it.
- Pharmacy processingCompounding pharmacies prepare orders before shipping. Ask whether they close on any December dates.
- Carrier transitUse the table above, and ask whether your service delivers on weekends.
- A buffer for problemsLeave several days for a missed delivery, a weather delay or an address mix-up.
Refill timing can affect price too. Lilly's Zepbound self-pay terms say its $449 price for 7.5 mg and higher doses applies only if you refill within 45 days of your previous delivery; otherwise the higher regular price applies. A holiday gap that pushes you past that window could cost more. If a shipment does slip, treat it as a care question as well as a delivery question; our post on why a delivery delay is also a care-coordination issue explains who to contact and what to ask.
Do not improvise a catch-up schedule. The labels give specific missed-dose instructions, and they differ by product. Ask your prescriber or pharmacist what to do if a shipment arrives late.
Cold storage: what the labels say
Storage rules are product-specific. The brand-name ranges below come from FDA prescribing information. Compounded products follow whatever the dispensing pharmacy's label says, and HealthRX notes that packaging and labels vary by pharmacy.
| Product | Refrigerated | Allowed out of the fridge |
|---|---|---|
| Wegovy single-dose pen | 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) | 46°F to 86°F for up to 28 days, before the cap is removed |
| Zepbound single-dose pen or vial | 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) | Up to 86°F (30°C) for a total of 21 days |
| Zepbound KwikPen or multi-dose vial | 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C) | Up to 86°F for 30 days; once opened, discard after 30 days or 4 weekly doses |
| Wegovy tablets | Not required | Store at 68°F to 77°F, with brief excursions from 59°F to 86°F; keep in the original bottle |
| Compounded vials | Follow the dispensing pharmacy's label | |
Two rules repeat across the injectable labels: do not freeze, and keep the product in its original carton, away from light. Wegovy's label also says not to store pens directly next to the refrigerator's cooling element. That matters in small hotel fridges, where the back wall can freeze items.
Healthline's article on Zepbound storage, which cites the prescribing information, names leaving a pen in a hot car and packing it in checked luggage as examples of exposure to avoid. Carry it with you.
Write down how many days your medication has spent out of the fridge. The 21-, 28- and 30-day allowances are totals, and a long travel day counts toward them.
Receiving a cold shipment while you're away
A cold-packed box left on a porch is a common holiday problem. GobyMeds says its medication ships cold-packed. HealthRX says its deliveries need no signature, which is convenient at home and less so when nobody is there.
- Ask whether you can schedule the shipment to arrive before you leave, rather than while you are gone.
- If someone else will receive it, make sure they know it needs the fridge, not the freezer.
- Open a delayed box promptly and check it against the pharmacy's instructions. If you are unsure whether the contents stayed in range, call the pharmacy before using it.
- Keep the tracking number and photos of any damaged or warm packaging; you may need them for a replacement claim.
Changing your shipping address
Shipping to a relative's home for the holidays sounds simple. In practice, it raises two separate questions.
Logistics. Change the address in your provider account, not just with the carrier, and do it before the pharmacy prints a label. Once an order has gone to the pharmacy, changes may not be guaranteed; GobyMeds says some changes after that point carry a $50 consultation fee.
State rules. A different address may be in a different state, and pharmacies and prescribers are licensed state by state. Some providers cannot ship to certain states at all; BiltRx notes that availability varies by state. Before redirecting a shipment across state lines, read our state-lines guide and ask the provider directly.
Airport screening basics
According to TSA's guidance on medications (checked October 29, 2026):
- Medically necessary liquids are allowed in larger amounts than the usual carry-on limit. Tell the officer before screening starts.
- Put medications, syringes and related supplies in a separate bin for screening.
- Ice packs, gel packs and freezer packs used to keep medication cool are allowed, whether frozen, partly frozen or melted. They are screened too.
- Officers may inspect or test items. If you do not want your medication X-rayed, say so; additional screening steps follow.
If you want help at the checkpoint, TSA Cares takes calls at (855) 787-2227 and asks travelers to reach out at least 72 hours before a flight. For international trips, check the destination country's rules separately; TSA covers only U.S. checkpoints.
Pre-trip checklist
- Note your next dose date and your trip dates on one calendar.
- Find the earliest date you are allowed to request your refill, and request it then.
- Ask the provider which carrier service they use, and compare it with the holiday cutoffs.
- Confirm the pharmacy's December closure dates.
- Confirm the delivery address, and whether it is in another state.
- Pack medication in your carry-on with its pharmacy label, plus a cooler pack if needed.
- Keep your provider's and pharmacy's support contacts on your phone.
Frequently asked questions
When should I order my GLP-1 refill before the holidays?
Count back from your next dose, adding clinician review, pharmacy processing, carrier transit and a buffer. USPS recommends shipping by December 17 to 19, 2026 for delivery before Christmas, depending on service, so many people will want to request refills in early December.
Can I bring GLP-1 pens on a plane?
TSA allows medically necessary liquids and injectable supplies in carry-on bags. Declare them to the officer at the start of screening and put them in a separate bin. Ice packs used to keep medication cool are allowed.
How long can Wegovy or Zepbound be out of the fridge?
Per the labels, Wegovy pens can be kept between 46°F and 86°F for up to 28 days before the cap is removed. Zepbound single-dose pens and vials can be unrefrigerated up to 86°F for a total of 21 days; the KwikPen and multi-dose vial allow 30 days. Compounded products follow the pharmacy label.
Can I ship my GLP-1 refill to a different state for the holidays?
Possibly, but pharmacies and prescribers are licensed by state, and some providers can't ship to certain states. Ask your provider before changing the address, and see our guide to crossing state lines.
Do UPS and FedEx deliver on Christmas Day?
UPS lists no pickup or delivery on December 25, 2026 or January 1, 2027. Plan for your medication to arrive before those dates.
